If you have been past or into our cemetery recently you will have no doubt noticed that the first phase of the PLANT A TREE scheme is now complete.
The Parish Council is responsible for the upkeep of our cemetery using the funds it gets from the reservation of burial plots and internments plus a small part of the annual council tax precept. This does not leave much for improvements, but the Parish Council is keen to further enhance the appearance for the benefit of both the living and the dead. So a landscape gardener was commissioned to prepare an improvement scheme, a form of which is to be put into action over the next 5 years.
Where do you come in? Part of the improvement scheme introduces a number of trees to break up the blank expanse of grass, and investigations have shown that the cost of some species of trees is not as much as you might think. For example, a 4-5ft Ash, Maple, Chestnut, etc costs £5.75, a 6-8ft Cherry, Poplar, Crab Apple, etc £15.75. A list of the trees and their cost is outlined here.
We would like to involve all our villagers in this scheme, and the Parish Council would be interested in hearing from anyone in our village, and especially those who already have family plots in the cemetery, who would be willing to sponsor the cost of buying a tree of their choice.
Planting can be by the sponsor, or you can witness its planting by more able bodied labour, the choice is yours.
The next phase of the scheme will commence soon.
What to do next?
If you are interested please contact Brian Woodley, Tel 01748 810961, who is your Councilor with special responsibility for the cemetery, or any member of the Parish Council, for further details.
